There was a collective WOW when we arrived at Galanga Thai House. In a city filled with all type of restaurants this one is perfectly manicured, with so many plants and bamboo lamps in a completely refurbished typical Roma house. Just entering this place there's a relaxing vibe that feels like a holiday, in fact, walking to our table I felt entering a colonial building somewhere in South East Asia.
We were planning to try another place but since it was closed we arrived at an odd time, late brunch or early lunch, which in a sense was fabulous luck since we managed to actually try some brunch dishes and also some lunch options (go ahead and judge us)….
If you’ve been in Thailand before, you know the staples, curries, papaya salad, Pad Thai and Thom Yum soup, well, Galanga has it all but it manages to present it as the most elegant delicacies. It also has some more sophisticated dishes like the duck curry, some fancy cocktails and others that I will def try next time.
We started with the brunch menu and a Khao Mun Gai, typical dish in both China and Thailand that is better known as Hainan Chicken, I didn’t have high expectations but it def set the bar super high when it arrived beautifully presented, the sauces were delicious, the rice & broth were aromatic and the chicken was cooked to perfection, a side note for anyone interested, it was organic chicken which made me smile!
While we were waiting for 2pm to try the lunch dishes we enjoyed their soda waters, one with lemon grass and one with kafir lime which were very refreshing and satisfying, a tad sweet, but it was still a welcome flavour pause. Tables around us started filling up, I loved that you could bring your pooch and I could see an incredibly international mix in the tables, this was a cool Sunday place to go with friends.
While we were people watching we gently moved to our seconds which in our case was Pad Thai, and some grilled eggplant. I know it might seem the most boring choice but we had to try it. Presentation was perfect, although we already knew what we should expect so we weren’t as surprised. The shrimps were juicy and extremely fresh, I loved the real Thai dry chili (not Mexican one), and it was a nice surprise to have the Asian eggplant rather than the Western one.
We were torn about getting a dessert but since we both have gained over 15kgs from our arrival in Mexico (thank you tacos) we decided against it. The menu had so many other things to try so we have already made a booking for next weekend… What better recommendation can we give a place?
